The Last Walk

In August 2011, I realised that I had to leave New York City – a place I loved and dreamt of making my home – for good. I decided to walk the entire island from North to South, capturing what I saw in my square black box of a camera.

"Closed for Armageddon"

Before I left, however, the city itself was shut down, its airports closed, its front doors blocked, most of its residents evacuated – New York braced itself for impact by Hurricane Irene. I remained.

The Meeting Point

Placed between so many cultures, languages, geographical and political units,

Istanbul is the ultimate meeting point, open to many for whom other doors are closed.

Outhentic

In the 21st century, Cuba preserves an authenticity which one cannot find anywhere else in the world.  Its colours and forms, its urban imagery and street fashion, its artistic life and ways of living, are exceptional. The other side of this particularity is political oppression and human rights violations, a degraded economy, and the US embargo. One cannot help concluding that these very challenges might be the cause of the country's particular beauty, which has not been destroyed by international trends and businesses. In a way, it is being an outsider of the global culture, that makes it possible for Cuba to keep its inside authenticity.

The Resting Place

Venice is the best of my days.

Venice is that word of praise

that you whisper, never shout.

Venice is my soul inside out.
